Perfumery is not only about choosing beautiful ingredients. A successful formula requires balance, structure, technical understanding, emotional clarity, and the ability to translate an idea into scent without losing its character.

Dark Tales offers private consulting for perfumers who want help developing their skills, improving their formulas, or understanding how to approach fragrance creation with more confidence and intention.

Each session is tailored to the perfumer’s current level, goals, and creative challenges.

What We Can Cover

Depending on your needs, the consultation may include guidance on:

• perfume formula structure;
• accord building;
• raw material selection;
• balancing top, heart, and base notes;
• improving longevity, diffusion, and performance;
• fixing formulas that feel flat, muddy, sharp, unstable, or unfinished;
• understanding why a formula does not work as intended;
• working with naturals, aroma chemicals, bases, and accords;
• creating a clearer olfactory direction;
• translating a concept, mood, image, story, or emotion into scent;
• evaluating trial versions more professionally;
• developing a personal style as a perfumer;
• building a more effective creative workflow;
• preparing a formula for further refinement, testing, or future commercial use;
• basic discussion of allergens, IFRA, and formulation limits where relevant.

This consultation can be practical, creative, technical, or a mixture of all three.

Formula Review

If you already have a formula in progress, you may submit it before the session for review.

We can discuss:

• what works in the formula;
• what may be causing problems;
• which materials may be overpowering the composition;
• how to improve balance and clarity;
• how to make the fragrance more elegant, expressive, wearable, or commercially viable;
• possible directions for the next modification.

Please note that this service provides guidance and feedback. It does not include rewriting the entire formula for you unless agreed separately.

Format

Consultations may be held online or, when suitable, in our lab / workshop in Uppsala, Sweden.

Online sessions are ideal for formula review, creative direction, and strategic guidance.

In-person sessions may include a more hands-on approach, material smelling, formula discussion, and practical development guidance.

Important Note

This service is designed for education, mentoring, and professional feedback.

It does not include finished perfume development, full formula creation, commercial certification, legal advice, safety assessment, or access to Dark Tales formulas.

We do not create copies or imitations of existing perfumes.

What Happens Next

After your order is placed, we will contact you by email to clarify the details of your request and agree on a suitable date and time for the consultation.

If you would like us to review a formula, please prepare the formula, your creative intention, and any specific questions or issues you would like to discuss.

For online consultations, you may also ship us a sample of the perfume in advance for evaluation. For in-studio consultations, you are welcome to bring the sample with you to the meeting.

All shared information is treated as strictly confidential. Any formulas, concepts, samples, or materials shared with us during the consultation remain yours and will never be used, copied, developed, or reproduced.
